About Bob Nocek

Bob Nocek first broke into the business in 2000 as Program Manager for the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre, PA. As the booker for the 1,800-seat historic theater, he significantly expanded programming and landed some major stars including Aretha Franklin, Jon Stewart, Ellen DeGeneres, B.B. King, David Sedaris, Joan Rivers, and others.

In 2003, he left to work for SMG, the world leader in Facility Management, at what was then Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre. He served as Box Office Manager, then Director of Operations. In 2006 he became Director of Sales & Marketing. He was promoted to Assistant General Manager in 2008.

He moved to Durham, North Carolina in 2009 after being named Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Carolina Theatre of Durham, Inc. a non-profit that operates the City of Durham’s historic Carolina Theatre complex under a multi-year management agreement. Nocek was promoted to President & Chief Executive Officer the following year. Over a five year period, he doubled the theater’s annual revenue from $2.5 million to over $5 million, and expanded programming from roughly 25 shows per year to over 100. In 2013 he recorded the theater’s first profitable year since 2008.

Nocek left The Carolina Theatre in January 2016 to create Bob Nocek Presents LLC, to capitalize on his presence in the Raleigh-Durham market, his relationships throughout North Carolina, and his connections throughout the concert industry.

He is a member of the North Carolina Presenters Consortium and the League of Historic American Theatres. Nocek is a graduate of the International Association of Venue Managers Venue Management School and received a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Duke University.
