Industry vet Bob Nocek launches new concert promotion company
DURHAM, N.C. - Bob Nocek, a 16-year veteran of the concert and facility management industry, has formed Bob Nocek Presents LLC, a company dedicated to promoting concerts and comedy performances in venues throughout North Carolina.
The company, based in Durham, will initially present shows in clubs, theaters and amphitheaters, with a focus on Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro and Wilmington. Additional markets may be targeted in the future. The company anticipates announcing its first performances in the coming weeks.
"The most satisfying part of what we do in this business is putting incredible artists in front of passionate audiences, and I'm truly excited to have the opportunity to do that around the state," Nocek said. "I've come to know many of North Carolina's great venues and have made friends in many of them, and I look forward to getting our first performances announced shortly."
The company has launched its website at www.bnpresents.com, and can be found atfacebook.com/bnpresents and twitter.com/bnpresents.
Nocek has lived in North Carolina since 2009, and most recently was President & CEO of Carolina Theatre of Durham, Inc. the nonprofit that operates the City of Durham's historic Carolina Theatre.
A Pennsylvania native, Nocek has worked in the concert business since 2000 when he became Program Manager of the 1,800-seat F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. There, he presented a number of major artists including Aretha Franklin, Brad Paisley, Jon Stewart, B.B. King and Ellen DeGeneres.
He later spent more than five years with SMG, the worldwide facility management company, at what was then Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre. Nocek was ultimately promoted to Asst. General Manager, but prior to that was Box Office Manager, Director of Operations and Director of Sales & Marketing. He worked on the Simon & Garfunkel reunion tour in 2003, rehearsals and the launch of the AC/DC "Black Ice" tour in 2008, and tours by Eagles, Elton John, Motley Crue, and Foo Fighters.
Nocek became CEO of Carolina Theatre of Durhan, Inc. in July 2010. Despite being the smallest of the facilities in which he worked, he was able to attract major artists and elevate the theater to Pollstar's Top 100 Theaters Worldwide from 2012 through 2015. He increased in-house programming by 300% and grew the organization's total revenue from $2.5 million to more than $5 million. Among the artists he presented were Aziz Ansari, Brian Wilson, Lauryn Hill, Chris Isaak, Lily Tomlin and Rufus Wainwright.
He also expanded the programming reach of the nonprofit to include Durham Performing Arts Center, The Carolina Theatre in Greensboro and Motorco and The Pinhook in Durham.
Nocek has served as a Board Member of the North Carolina Presenters Consortium, and is a member of the League of Historic American Theatres. He is a graduate of the International Association of Venue Managers' Venue Management School and holds a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Duke University.
